Bread Eater

I’m sure i am not the only one who rates restaurants by their bread baskets or if you are like my husband, rates sandwiches by their rolls. In my younger days I would eat bread constantly. I ate it with breakfast, lunch, and dinner in some kind of form everyday. But then it’s that thing called getting older and bread was just not the friend it used to be. So I have to eat sparingly if I don’t want to suffer the consequences of gaining weight and bread turning into sugar after it’s broken down. I find myself substituting bread eating tuna wrapped in lettuce or chicken salad with crackers or good ole PB&J on crackers as a snack. Obviously not as filling as bread, but it is getting the job done.

The thing you love to eat, your children may love to eat. I remember my son when he was a toddler wanted bread alll the time. He would ask…..bww-ead? Mommy bwwead? He could never say bread correctly nor in a full sentence, and it sounded so adorable. My love for bread had clearly passed on to my son.

Let me go back to the bread at the restaurants for a second. Now good restaurant bread will have you eating two baskets and by the time your main meal comes you can hardly finish. Before you know it you are asking for a “to go” container because the bread has filled you up and you have no room to eat anything else.

Now let’s talk about spiritual bread for a minute. I am referring to the word of god and Jesus our spiritual bread. We are in the last days and an appetite for his word is not strongly desired like it used to be. There is a reason Jesus instructed us to pray “give us this day our daily bread”.  Our spiritual man will not be able to function nor survive without the bread of life.  Paul said in acts 17:28 for in him we live we move and we have our being. We need to eat this bread everyday. It should be a part of our breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack.  We cannot afford to eat his bread once and a while and there are no substitutes for spiritual bread. His bread fills us up…builds us up and gives us strength for our journey and our purpose. His bread helps us to forgive others. His bread brings great peace and keeps us from being offended when we love it according to psalm 119:165. His bread brings healing. His bread sustains and regulates our minds and keeps our soul satisfied. There are so many benefits to being a spiritual bread eater. It is clear the more of this bread we eat, the healthier we become. And you can tell who is a bread eater by the fruit of their behavior.

Fill up on his daily bread so when those main things (think about when the main meal comes at a restaurant) come at you to feed your flesh or take you down, you will have no room left to eat anything else. And those kind of main things can go in the “to go” container but not to take home to eat later. It’s called let it go! Get his bread in your system, let it digest and break down properly in you so you can function at your full potential. Get his bread in your system daily so you can gain and be at the spiritual weight that you will need to be able to endure. Be a bread eater.

Prayer: god i thank you for your word and your son Jesus the bread of life. Help me become a lover of your word. God fill me up. Give me an appetite for you and throw away those things that are not like you. Help me become a bread eater today.

John 6:48-51 (amp) i am the bread of life [the living bread which gives and sustains life]. 49 your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50 this is the bread that comes down out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. 51 i am the living bread that came down out of heaven. If anyone eats of this bread [believes in me, accepts me as savior], he will live forever. And the bread that i will give for the life of the world is my flesh (body).”

John 6:32 (amp) then Jesus said to them, “i assure you and most solemnly say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is my father who gives you the true bread out of heaven.

1 Corinthians 10:17 (amp) since there is one bread, we [believers] who are many are [united into] one body; for we all partake of the one bread [which represents the body of Christ].
