Forgive Yourself...

Forgive yourself and forgive others. Easy to say on paper but this can be a tough one right? Let’s deal with forgiving yourself first. We celebrate the ultimate love story from thousands of years ago when Christ died for our sins….but do we believe and truly live like we are forgiven? Sometimes that little thief of shame creeps up reminding you of your past and what you have done making you feel you are just so unforgivable. And where there is shame there is unforgiveness. And I say to that…..either Christ died for EVERY sin and EVERYbody or He didn’t.

I found that people who have a hard time forgiving others have not forgiven themselves. The word says to love your neighbor as yourself. People who do not love others as they should do not love themselves. And where there is no love there is unforgiveness. I know this first hand. I struggled for years not forgiving myself for things I said and did. I would self -reject before I let someone else have a chance at rejecting me…… even God Himself. In my mind self-rejection softened the blow and kept me in charge of my “unforgiveness baby” that was growing and growing and creating more unhealth in my life. I would feed my unforgiveness with the enemy’s lies and with my own lies of defeat. I would tell myself, you messed up, you can forget it now. God has moved on and you need to just stop thinking He will forgive you.

It finally dawned on me that… yes God did move on….but not from me……from my sins. I did not see this until I shifted from being this religious person going through the traditional motions to really coming into a relationship with Him. When I stopped focusing on the memories of people’s judgement and negative responses and remembered God’s goodness toward me, my heart began to change, and I began to see myself differently seeing how God sees me and seeing how God sees others. Once this transformation took place, I was able to forgive and love myself and this made an easy pathway to forgive and love others.

I pray you come to this revelation that you are truly forgiven, and I pray you receive God’s love and forgiveness that is waiting for you. Besides, there are people out there who think they are not forgivable for the things they did in life too. God is depending on us to reach out and let them know that He has forgiven them.

Can I ask you a question? Why are you still holding on to what you did, thought, or said 20 years ago? Why are you still holding on to what you did, thought, or said 20mins ago? Okay that was actually a couple of questions…. But get free today. It doesn’t matter what went down, who saw it, heard about it, and talked about it. It does not matter what went down that was private. Did you confess it and ask God to forgive you? Then you have been forgiven. He went to the cross and got up out of the tomb victorious….. It was already under the blood before you were born.

Get past your past, forgive yourself, forgive others, and get on to God’s business and purpose for your life. Because He is still called you.

Prayer: Lord you are so good to me. You are great. Mighty is your name in all the earth. I confess xyz (I encourage you to confess your sin in this moment). Thank you for dying for every one of my sins. Thank you for reminding me that I have been forgiven. I come against every attack on my mind that tells me I am not forgiven. I cast down every imagination that exalts itself against you. I bring into captivity every thought into the obedience of Christ. I choose to forgive myself and choose to love myself first. And I choose to love and forgive others. I will walk in forgiveness and love. In Jesus name amen.

Scriptures:

Galatians 5:14 king James Version (KJV)

14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

Ephesians 4:31-32 New International Version (NIV)

31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ god forgave you.

Psalm 32:5 Amplified Bible (AMP)

I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not hide my wickedness; I said, “I will confess [all] my transgressions to the Lord”; and you forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah.
