Artist Profile: Marvin Sapp

Marvin Sapp

Founder and Senior pastor of Lighthouse Full Life Center Church in Grand Rapids, MI, Pastor Marvin Sapp has managed to conquer the music world with his uplifting gospel albums. Sapp got his first musical break when he was recruited to the group Commissioned in the early 90s. He then recorded two albums with group members Fred Hammond, Mitchell Jones, Mike Williams, and Karl Reid; after Hammond and Williams left the group, Sapp stayed to record the group's final album, in 1996. In the same year he signed a solo contract and released his self-titled album.

Sapp’s solo music career was on its way. In 1997 he released his sophomore album Grace & Mercy and was shortly followed by his third album Nothing Else Matters. After a 5 year hiatus, he released a song on the WOW Gospel 2002 and followed up with his I Believe album. Sapp’s big success didn’t arrive until 3 albums later when he released Thirsty in 2007 which featured his hit “Never Would Have Made It”. The single stayed in the # 1 spot on Gospel radio for almost a full year and the topped the Christian/Gospel charts for 27 weeks.

Today Marvin’s eight and latest album Here I Am has been sitting on the # 1 Gospel Album charts for 15 weeks and his single The Best in Me has also been in the # 1 spot for 27 weeks. An honoree, award recipient and general humanitarian, Pastor Marvin Sapp we recognize you.
