Today, we honor and wish a very happy birthday, to the iconic queen of soul, Aretha Franklin. She is one of the best-selling female artists of all time, with 18 Grammy Awards and 45 hit records under her belt, she is truly an inspiration for all women. 

Aretha was born March 25th, 1942 in Memphis and was raised in Detroit, and like the majority of Soulful R&B artist, she started her musical Journey in the church. Aretha sang and played piano with her father's, Baptist Minister C.L. Franklin's, traveling Revival show. He was also a civil rights activist, who protested with leaders like the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., indirectly providing a platform for Aretha to become the voice of a movement.

With a career spanning over several decades, Aretha Franklin has broken many barriers for women from all walks of life. In 1987 she was the first female artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
