WBLS CELEBRATES WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH: 31 DAYS, 31 PHENOMENAL WOMEN

 

Harlem, New York native, Patricia Bath is the first African American to complete a residency in ophthalmology, in addition to becoming the first female, African-American Dr. to receive a medical patent. Making strides and breaking down ceilings, Bath holds 4 patents in the U.S. including one for her Laserphaco Probe, a medical device used for cataract treatment, and is the first black female to work as a surgeon at the UCLA Medical Center.  Source: LadiSav
