A 22-year-old driver who was fleeing from police was decapitated Wednesday when he crashed into the back of a flatbed truck on the Gowanus Expressway in Brooklyn.
The Brooklyn man's identity wasn’t immediately released, but a witness recounted the aftermath of the horrifying incident.
"I'm in shock seeing something like that — when they pulled the car out, the body was leaned back in the seat but the head wasn't there," said Hamid Mateen, 36, of Bed-Stuy, who works as a truck dispatcher nearby.
The black Infiniti’s driver took off during an attempted police stop around 12 p.m., cops said. He was speeding and slammed into the back of a truck at the off ramp at Hicks St. and Atlantic Ave., cops said.
"He was doing 80," Mateen said. "I heard the police chasing him. The truck stopped at the light and he just ran into the back of him.”
Police had attempted to stop the car at the Hamilton Ave. exit, cops said. Mateen said he saw a woman jump out of the passenger seat right after the crash.
"She was trying to get away but she had to stop. She was hurt bad,” he said. “She was limping. She said it was her boyfriend, she told the cops.”
Police immediately checked the car and called for backup, he said.
The flatbed truck, which was just about to pull onto Atlantic Ave., was from Monile Steam Boiler Rental Corp. in Brooklyn, 182 Montrose Ave.
The company didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment. The flatbed was empty except for some metal tubing
