Bronx school blaze called suspicious, hurts 5 firefighters

Five Bronx firefighters suffered minor injuries battling a suspicious blaze that tore through a Catholic high school Friday, officials said.

The fire erupted in the boiler room of Msgr. Scanlan High School on the Hutchinson River Expressway in Throggs Neck just before 6:15 p.m., officials said. A few school administrators were inside, but got out safely, officials said.

The fire was out in two hours, but not before causing “significant damage” to the boiler room and a chapel.
