The West Harlem Development Corp. awarded a total of $1 million in grants to 27 organizations that will provide education, arts, culture, health, housing and economic development services.
Beneficiaries include Harlem Arts Alliance, the National Dance Institute, Riverside Language Program, Girl Be Heard, City College of New York, Washington Heights/Inwood Development Corp. and Globalscope — all of which sent reps to Our Children Foundation, on W. 125th St. near Amsterdam Ave., for the cermony on Thursday.
“Funding is drying up for nonprofits,” said Kofi Boateng, the West Harlem Development Corp. executive director, noting that these organizations could also help compensate for cuts to the education system. “Funding is drying up for schools, and youth are not getting the full range of enrichment.”
