Young Bronx dancers document their recent journey to China

The food in China is pretty different — even the Chinese food.

But dance, it turns out, is pretty much the same wherever you go.

That was just one of the lessons that five young dancers — four from the Bronx — brought home from Shanghai, where a weeklong sojourn culminated in a memorable performance alongside 48 Chinese students on Oct. 3, part of the 60th anniversary of the Children’s Welfare Institute’s China Palace.

The experience, organized by the Harlem-based National Dance Institute, marked the first time that several of the youngsters had ever been away from their families or taken a plane ride.
