Mary Mary

The gospel duo, Mary Mary, consists of sisters Erica Atkins-Campbell and Tina Atkins-Campbell.  The sisters were both born in California and grew up attending the Evangelistic Church of God in Christ where their mother was a choir director and evangelist and their father was a youth minister.

While Tina and Erica were growing up, they became extremely close, mostly due to their proximity in age and their love for music. They had dreams of making music into a career at an early age, and enrolled in El Camino College to study music. In 1995, the girls toured with the traveling gospel show, “Mama I’m Sorry” and Sneaky” and even worked as a backup singer for a few R&B artists including Brandy.

After gaining experience in the music business, Erica and Tina began to gain recognition in the music industry, and landed a publishing deal with EMI where they wrote songs that appeared on a few movie soundtracks including “Dr. Dolittle” and “The Prince of Egypt”. It wasn’t until 2000 that the sisters were officially signed to Columbia Records and adopted the name, “Mary Mary”. Their first single, “Shackles (Praise You)” became an instant hit with gospel, pop and R&B audiences. They released their debut album, “Thankful”, later that year which offered music that a younger and hipper audience could relate to. The success of their debut album caused it to peak at number one on the gospel music chart. Since then, Mary Mary has released five albums, and have even starred on their own reality television show on We TV entitled “Mary Mary”. The success of Mary Mary’s singles, albums and music videos have earned them countless BET Music Awards, Grammy Awards, American Music Awards and many more.
